Introducing the Barrie Colts Hockey Academy, new for September 2012!
The Barrie Colts are pleased to offer a unique, elite athletic program that operates in conjunction with local boutique private school, Blyth Academy Barrie. This one-of-a-kind opportunity allows students from Grades 6-12 to enjoy world-class Hockey training during the morning, and attend afternoon school classes in a personalized, small-class learning environment at Blyth.
Barrie resident, Dale Hawerchuk, Head Coach of the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League, is the Head of Athletic Training at the Hockey Academy where student athletes will receive training at the highest level. Dale played 16 seasons in the NHL and was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2001. A master motivator, Dale brings a wealth of experience to the rink and has a reputation for getting the most out of every student of the game.
Students will spend every weekday morning in on-ice or dry-land training with Dale Hawerchuk and other Colts instructors before moving to Blyth Academy Barrie for their afternoon class schedule. The school year is made up of four 10-week sessions beginning in September 2012 and concluding in June 2013, and students may register for one or all of the sessions available.
Blyth Academy Barrie is conveniently located near the shores of Kempenfelt Bay and Centennial Park, providing ideal surroundings for experiential learning. Students will enjoy the advantages of immersion in a dynamic and growing urban centre with easy access to the lush natural environment that is characteristic of the Georgian triangle. Opening in September 2012, our campus will accommodate both full-time and part-time students from grades 6 through 12 providing individualized timetabling, one on one counseling and a superior university/college preparatory curriculum.
In addition to the Athletic program in Barrie, Blyth also offers a Foundations Program in grades 9 and 10.
Blyth Academy follows a unique 4-term approach with 2 to 3 courses per term that is especially advantageous to anyone who wants flexibility in their academic program. The campus is currently developing partnerships with the Barrie Rowing Club, Anne Green Yoga, Concept Movement, The McLaren Centre and the Do It Yourself Arts Cooperative, among others.
