The Barrie Colts exploded for nine goals in Thursday night's home opener against the Owen Sound Attack. The Colts came into game one of the regular season having not lost a pre-season game, and were averaging over six goals a contest. Thursday night they eclipsed that mark by hammering home nine and defeating the Attack 9-1. Colts third round pick Zach Hall opened the scoring with his first career goal in the Ontario Hockey League, coming at the 6:15 mark of the first from Chris Wiggin and Dean Pawlaczyk, as all three players record a point in their OHL debut. 61 seconds later the Attack responded, leading many to believe it would be a close game at the BMC. Myles Doan scored for the Attack, from Milan Doczy to tie the game at one. The Colts would respond on the power play at the 11:20 mark when Luke Pither would score his first of four on the night from Matt Stanisz and Simon Gronvaldt. Just over two minutes later Alexander Burmistrov would score his first goal of the season from newcomer Bryan Cameron and Taylor Carnevale, Barrie's second straight power play goal. The Colts would make it 4-1 after 20 minutes, as Pither would one-time home his second of the night, on a great feed from Colin Behenna. Michael Sgarbossa found the back of the net six minutes in to the second from Alex Hutchings and Burmistrov to make it 5-1 Barrie. Five minutes later Pither would complete the hat-trick on the power play from Carnevale and Ryan O'Connor. Sgarbossa would find his way back to the score sheet at the 14:02 mark of the second on a short-handed effort, as he stripped the Owen Sound defender and walked around Attack goalie Jordan Binnington. The Colts would continue to attack while short-handed as Carnevale scored unassisted at the 17:46 mark of the second, making 8-1 after 40 minutes. Luke Pither capped off a fantastic opening night in Barrie by adding his fourth of the game from Burmistrov and O'Connor at the 2:16 mark. That goal was one of few stoppages in play in the final stanza, as the Colts put on a great show in front of over three thousand fans at the BMC. Luke Pither was named the game's first star for his four goal performance, playing on a line with Bryan Cameron who was acquired earlier in the day from the Belleville Bulls. Michael Sgarbossa and Peter Di Salvo were named the game's second and third stars respectively. Peter Di Salvo turned aside 26 of 27 Owen Sound shots, while Jordan Binnington played all 60 minutes for the Attack and made 48 saves. |
