Norm Ezekiel and the short-handed Colts skated to a 4-3 overtime victory in Peterborough
The Barrie Colts made their first visit of the season to Peterborough Sunday afternoon for a date with the Petes.
A short-handed Colts squad scored a goal in each period including overtime and handed the Petes their ninth loss in the last ten games by a score of 4-3.
Alex Fotinos started for the second time this season and stopped 38 shots for his first career OHL win.
The Petes mounted a nice come back and scored all three of their goals in the third period, including the game-tying marker with 1:25 left in regulation time.
After killing off a penalty to start the five minute session of overtime Colts forward Daniel Erlich scored his second of the night with 98 seconds left to give Barrie a much needed victory.
Barrie got on the board late in the first period on their first power play of the game. Steven Beyers led the break-out and got the puck inside the Petes zone where Aaron Ekblad made a great play to knock the puck down off the glass and backhanded a pass to Erlich who one-timed home his fourth of the season.
Ekblad has now put up assists in three straight games and is the OHL`s highest scoring rookie defenceman.
Barrie notched another goal in the second period to make it 2-0 after 40 minutes. Dylan Smoskowitz dug the puck out of his own zone and wrapped it around his own net to Chris Buonomo who banked a long pass off the boards to a streaking Eric Locke who quickly went to his backhand and beat Petes goalie Mike Morrison.
Erlich and Gregg Sutch set up Dylan Smoskowitz early in the third period to make it 3-1 Barrie.
Andrew Yogan, Alan Quine and Luke Hietkamp scored for the Petes.
The Colts were without Tanner Pearson, Mark Scheifele, Ivan Telegin, Mathias Niederberger and Zach Hall who was given a two-game suspension Saturday night against Ottawa.
