Team Canada hammered Finland in the first of four round-robin games

Team Canada got a hat-trick from Mark Stone and skated to a 8-1 victory against Team Finland in their first round-robin game at the IIHF World Junior Championship in Alberta.

Jonathan Huberdeau had a five-point night, Ryan Strome had four points and Mark Visentin made 24 stops for the win. 

Colts forward Tanner Pearson, who scored one goal in pre-tournament play, added two assists for Team Canada.  

Mark Scheifele was held off the scoresheet and has yet to register a point in four contests.

Canada will then play the Czech Republic on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. EST.

Canada finished pre-tournament play with a 2-1 record, posting victories against the Team Finland and Team Switzerland, while losing 5-3 to Team Sweden in the squad’s final tune-up game.

Ivan Telegin picked up a goal and three assists as Team Russia was a perfect 2-0 in pre-tournament play.  They began their tournament with a 3-0 win against the Swiss on Boxing Day.
