BARRIE DEFEATS ERIE 4-3

December 02, 2011

Colin Behenna is fourth in league scoring

The Barrie Colts (14-10-2-1) made their lone visit of the season to the Tullio Arena Friday night to take on the lowly Erie Otters (3-23-0-1).

Clint Windsor back-stopped the Colts to their 14th win of the year as they handed the Otters their 12th straight loss.

65 minutes wasn`t enough to solve this one as the Colts took the Otters to their first overtime game of the season and eventually beat them 4-3 in a shoot-out.

Mark Scheifele led the way for Barrie with three assists; Tanner Pearson had a goal and an assist, while Colin Behenna had two helpers.  Steven Beyers scored the Colts first goal and potted the shoot-out winner.

The Otters jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead as they exposed Clint Windsor for two goals on ten shots.  Stephen Harper scored first for Erie and then it was Greg McKegg finding some real estate on the power play and converting to make it 2-0 Otters.

The Colts scored three times in the middle period before the Otters came back to square the game at three.  Mark Scheifele found a streaking Steven Beyers who back handed a perfect pass in to the open cage to make it 2-1 Erie, Colin Behenna added the second assist.

Scheifele was at it again later in the frame as he made a great play in the neutral zone to find Tanner Pearson who broke in to the Erie end and left the puck perfectly for Alex Lepkowski who went top shelf on Ramis Sadikov.

Scheifele picked up his third point of the period moments later as he found Behenna who centered to Pearson for the tip-in goal to make it 3-2 Barrie.

A defensive break down late in the frame would allow Chris Marchese a chance to break in and he made no mistake on Windsor to tie the game at three after 40 minutes.

Windsor made his first start in ten games after coming back from a lower-body injury and made 25 saves for his third win of the year.

The victory allows Barrie to remain in sixth place in the Eastern Conference, just one point shy of both Peterborough and Brampton.

Tanner Pearson extended his point streak to 14 games.  The forward has ten goals and 19 assists for 29 points in that stretch and ties the longest point streak of the season set by his teammate Colin Behenna, who put up nine goals and 21 assists for 30 points in 14 games to kick off the season.

The Colts and Otters will wrap up their season-series on December 31st when Erie makes the trip to Barrie for the annual New Year`s Eve special.

The Colts will cap off their week of action in Niagara on Saturday night against the IceDogs who were idle on Friday night.
